Details

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from Thompson Rivers University registered in the Course to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

The Service-Learning Course at Thompson Rivers University is seeking Virtual proposals for several 10-week projects. Organizations present their real-world problems to solve and groups of students or individual students will select the projects to work on for the term of the experiential learning opportunity.

Students are available up to 5 hours per week for the experience. Students are in a mixed program cohort. The class may be made up of the following degree areas: Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Computing Sciences, Bachelor of Science (Biology, Chemistry), Engineering and Bachelor of Natural Resource Sciences.

Deliverables

Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.

Typical final project deliverables could include:

  • White paper analysis with recommendations
  • Final project report
  • Project plans
  • Completed data sets for unique project goals
  • Final presentations and supporting documents, manuals etc.
Project Examples

Students in groups will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Project activities that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:

⦁ Identify several causes leading to particular issues addressed by the community agency.

⦁ Recognize the relationship between the work of a community-based service organization and local, provincial, and national governments.

⦁ Explain the programs and services provided by the community organization.

⦁ Identify ways in which they can contribute to the community, including both skills and knowledge.

⦁ Analyze how and where skills and information gained through service involvement can be applied to other situations.

⦁ Develop at least two recommendations for improvement to improve effectiveness.

⦁ Develop a plan to commit to continued involvement in the community and/or in political processes while in school or after graduation.

⦁ Describe how service involvement could impact personal career development.

Please provide a dedicated contact and supervisor who is available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions and offer project guidance.

Are you able to develop a clear project plan with the students with clear expectations and deadline within the 40 hours for project completion
