
Research Assistant for Social Impact and Social Change project
Role Title: Research Intern Urban Changemaker Coalition (UCC) offers a virtual internship opportunity for 1 team of 2 students or 2 individual students in a social science, research, urban studies, humanities, entrepreneurship, or other inter-disciplinary studies program. Your Role: Your role will be to assist a research project about local changemakers and what prevents them from solving deep-rooted urban challenges for their city. These cities may include: Merida, Mexico; Kathmandu, Nepal; Accra, Ghana; and more. Core Responsibilities: You will help us to Discover and summarize existing literature to extract pertinent insights Find and conduct background research on local changemakers Coordinate interviews with local changemakers and take interview minutes Depending on your speed of work, you may: Create an organization structure for files, documents and materials for future reference Analyze trends in existing literature By the end of the internship, we expect that you will have gathered significant data for this research project and uncovered some preliminary patterns. Requirements: You must be a legal adult (18 or above). You must have a reliable access to internet, a working computer and headset, and a productive space to attend meetings. You must agree to keep all sensitive information accessed during this process confidential. You must adhere to responsible research and community-based participatory research principles. What we expect from you: Expected time commitment is 80 hours over the course of 8 weeks. What you can expect from us: Any meetings or communication will be through email and Microsoft Teams. You will receive a company email address under your name to use for the duration of the internship. This gives you access to Microsoft Office Suite, and UCC's SharePoint site. Writing Case Studies for Social Impact
Urban Changemaker Coalition (UCC) offers a virtual internship opportunity for 2 students in a communications, creative writing, business writing or marketing program. After the successful completion of internship, the intern will be offered an ongoing, remote freelance contract for similar work. Your Role: Your role will be to prepare and create case studies of past UCC work to be included in our client portfolio and website. This will include researching and writing about high-impact work on various social and environmental causes, such as making Vancouver Zero Waste, or building accessible ski lifts for skiers with modified equipment. Core Responsibilities: You will help us to Summarize past projects done by UCC Analyze common themes and strengths of UCC to emphasize in case studies Write and edit case studies Requirements: You must be a legal adult (18 or above). You must be a current student of a Canadian secondary institution that is eligible for Riipen's services and live in Canada. You must have a reliable access to internet, a working computer and headset, and a productive space to attend meetings. You must agree to keep all sensitive information accessed during this process strictly confidential. What we expect from you: Expected time commitment is 80 hours over the course of 8 weeks. Role Title: Accounting Intern Introducing Urban Changemaker Coalition: Urban Changemaker Coalition is a not-for-profit facilitation and impact strategy consulting firm. Our mission is to enable local changemakers to effectively solve deep-rooted urban challenges for their city. We support non-profit organizations, social enterprises, activists, and community groups in small cities and big towns around the world. We are an early-stage firm, based out of Vancouver, Canada. Urban Changemaker Coalition (UCC) offers a virtual internship opportunity for 1 student in an accounting program. Your Role: Your role will be to prepare and set up the foundational processes for UCC to meet financial reporting requirements to tax authorities and internal board members in the future. Core Responsibilities: You will help us to Summarize financial reporting requirements of Canadian and BC governments for not-for-profit organizations Conduct a needs analysis for accounting processes Set up QuickBooks Online according to needs analysis Review and backfill bookkeeping for FY2020 (very limited # of transactions) Prepare tax reporting documents for accountant review Requirements: You must be a legal adult (18 or above). You must have a reliable access to internet, a working computer and headset, and a productive space to attend meetings. You must agree to keep all financial information accessed during this process strictly confidential. What we expect from you: Expected time commitment is 50~80 hours over the course of 8 weeks from May 1 ~ June 30. You will have some knowledge of accounting principles, even if you have not done any accounting for Canadian not-for-profit organizations.
